Editorial note: This guide has been rewritten from an old photoblogging tips article into a current WordPress photography publishing checklist.
Plan the photography workflow first
A strong photoblog is not just a theme with large images. Plan how photos move from camera to edit, export, upload, caption, license, backup, and archive. Keep original files outside WordPress, publish optimized web versions, and use a predictable naming system.
Use the right WordPress media tools
WordPress core includes the Image block, Gallery block, and Post Featured Image block. Start there before adding a gallery plugin.
Photoblog quality checklist
- Use descriptive titles, captions, alt text, EXIF/privacy checks, and licensing notes.
- Compress images, set responsive image sizes, and test galleries on mobile.
- Use featured images consistently so archive pages, social previews, and related posts look intentional.
- Keep a real backup strategy for originals, edited exports, and the WordPress media library.
- Pick a theme that makes images easy to inspect without hiding text, navigation, or author context.
